You May Need To Correct Your FAFSA® Form

We're reaching out about your 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. You indicated that your parents are unwilling to provide their information on your FAFSA form, and you therefore want to apply for only a Direct Unsubsidized Loan.

Without parent information, your eligibility for other types of federal student aid can't be calculated. This means you won't be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, or a Direct Subsidized Loan.

Take Action To Complete Your Application

To move forward with applying for only a Direct Unsubsidized Loan, contact the financial aid office at your college, career school, or trade school to discuss next steps.

If selecting to apply for only a Direct Unsubsidized Loan was a mistake, you should correct your FAFSA form. Follow these steps:

Log in to your StudentAid.gov account Dashboard.

Select your "2024–25 FAFSA Form" under the "My Activity" section and then select "Start Your Correction."

Navigate to the end of the Personal Circumstances section and find the question on the Dependency Status page that asks if you want to apply for only a Direct Unsubsidized Loan.

Change your answer to "No" so that you can invite your parent(s) to your FAFSA form.
